Whenever I organize my storage area inevitably older projects get buried. I have had this in my stash for a while now. I actually picked it up on the 127 Sale in 2019. If you are unfamiliar with this sale, you can see the post about this here. This was one of the first purchases on that trip.
The vinyl top was pretty cracked. The wood base was scratched up and the rusty tacks in the decorative trim wasn't doing it justice.
I began by removing the old upholstery and all the tacks.
I wanted to use a blue ticking canvas on this so I thought this dark blue chalk paint would complement it nicely.
I knew the upholstery would cover part of the sides so there was no need to paint all the way to the top.
I distressed the chalk paint all over the footstool. Yikes! Look at those nails. Good heavens, get that woman a manicure! Frankly, that is one of the things I have let fall to the wayside during this pandemic.
After distressing, I used a satin finish polyurethane to seal the paint.
I added new foam and batting. I used this decorative upholstery tack trim to cover the staples and I though it added a nice touch to the footstool.
I also added a covered button to the top of the stool. I bought covered buttons in bulk (new old stock) from someone on FB Marketplace so a lot of my upholstery pieces get tufted with buttons.
I really love how the lines on the footstool complement the lines on the ticking fabric.
This footstool is refreshed and ready for its second life now. By the way, it is available for sale at The Standard in Bourbon, IN if anyone loves it as much as I do!
