Oval Silverplate Easter Basket

Mixing materials can create stunning results. You wouldn't automatically think burlap could mix with silver-plate, but the juxtaposition can work well. This oval silver-plate container has been bouncing around my inventory for a while now. I was going to use it at Christmas, but I just didn't get around to it! I think everyone can relate—right?

It doesn't have a bottom. It never has as long as I have owned it. I think that is what has prevented me from using it before now. I knew I wanted to create an Easter basket so the bottom didn't have to be particularly sturdy.

I found a scrap piece of cardboard and traced the shape of the oval.

I cut out the cardboard and inserted it into the oval silver-plate vessel.

This Easter grass is from Dollar Tree. They have several colors including bright spring-y colors, but I really liked this shade of green.

The burlap and Buffalo check eggs were from Hobby Lobby. I think the Buffalo check goes really well with the silver-plate. The burlap is a nice contrast.

I love how this turned out. This could also be repurposed for another season. Some greenery and vintage glass ornaments would look amazing in this vessel. I keep calling it a vessel because I am not sure what its original purpose would have been. Any ideas?
