It's that time of year again! The annual Highway 127 sale or as some call it, the World's Longest Yard Sale. This sale occurs annually the first weekend in August. The sale runs through six states (Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and Alabama) on Hwy 127 (and on the Lookout Mountain Parkway in Alabama. I think I have lost count of how many times I have done this sale. I think it is getting close to twenty years. It's always hot and humid, but we have a lot of fun so we keep coming back!
We typically drive from Northern Indiana down to Gadsden, Alabama and then work our way back north. This year we decided to add a little side trip. We left a day early and headed to Laurel, Mississippi. If you are an HGTV fan, you will no doubt know this is the hometown for Hometown stars Ben and Erin. The town portrayed on TV is so charming, we just really wanted to see it! And maybe catch a glimpse of Ben and Erin!
We arrived in Laurel Tuesday afternoon. We hit the Laurel Mercantile and the Scotsman Co Store (Ben and Erin's stores). We picked up some cute things at each place. Both are in old buildings in Laurel that have been renovated. Both are so charming and full of really cute things. The film crew was filming in the wood shop, but we didn't see Ben. We drove around town for a while and then headed to our place for the evening. We had rented a home that had been renovated by the Hometown crew. This particular home is called The Peggy's.
I mean, how cute is this little house??? It was three bedrooms so we each had our own room. The wrap around porch was so inviting and complete with a hammock in the corner!
So what do you do in the evening in Laurel? Well, we found that everything closes up shop pretty early in the evening so we wound up watching Hometown episdodes on Discovery+, and we were able to find the episode showing this home being renovated! How cool is that? It was a little surreal sitting in the home while watching it being renovated.
This photo shows the final view of the living and we were sitting in the living room. Yes we are geeks. We wear it proudly!
Well we didn't run into Ben and Erin in Laurel, so after a delicious breakfast at the Bird Dog Cafe in Laurel, we set off to Gadsden to start our yard sale adventure. We arrived around 3 pm and checked into our hotel. Several yard sales open early so we set out to do a little shopping. We picked up a few small things, but the find of the day was this Military Training Globe. This thing is HUGE. I did a little bargaining and my friend helped me talk the vendor into my price point. So we loaded it up. We decided to call it a day.
There is so much more to find on this sale, we wanted to have a great dinner. We met up with our friends from Indiana (our group was now complete!). We had some great Mexican food and laughed a lot. We can't wait to see what we find on this trip!!! Follow us on FB to see our treasures daily! We have vinyl stickers on our vans so if you see us, say hey!
